Venetians of all ages gather for a weekend of prayer, regattas, and, at the climax of the festival, an incredible fireworks display that lights up the night sky, reflecting its colors on the waters of the Grand Canal.
Every neighborhood in Venice has its own small traditions and celebrations, from the Feast of Saint Mark, the city’s patron saint, to the numerous regattas that take place along the canals, keeping alive the tradition of voga alla veneta, a rowing technique that dates back to the early days of the Serene Republic.
